SPARC BC (the Social Planning and Research Council of BC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to social justice. They partnered with my class at ECU to address some of their design needs. Rennard Lusterio, Michael Cadamia, and myself decided to rethink SPARC BC's Knowledge Transfer on Housing and Homelessness.
We consulted the writers at SPARC BC as well as the intended users of the publication. We observed the communication gap between them and set out to bridge it through design. Using a participatory design process we created a framework for academic writers to employ design thinking. This would allow them to translate their knowledge into the form most appropriate to its context.
